Elle prend alors le nom de <em>CASTINETUM <\/em>(lieu plant\u00e9 de ch\u00e2taigniers).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Au Moyen Age, le site de Ch\u00e2tenois occupe une position strat\u00e9gique. C\u2019est ainsi que <strong>Ch\u00e2tenois <\/strong>poss\u00e8de le plus grand cimeti\u00e8re fortifi\u00e9 d\u2019Alsace qui, outre l\u2019\u00e9glise et le cimeti\u00e8re, englobait toute une s\u00e9rie d\u2019habitations. Descendez vers le c\u0153ur de la commune, perdez-vous dans les ruelles et laissez-vous s\u00e9duire par le charme des maisons alsaciennes o\u00f9 les g\u00e9raniums fleurissent les fen\u00eatres et balcons tout l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Depuis la commune, partez \u00e0 la d\u00e9couverte des pistes cyclables des environs. Pourquoi ? Parce les habitants avaient d\u00e9tourn\u00e9 la rivi\u00e8re, en l\u2019occurrence le Muhlbach.<br \/>En 1410, l\u2019\u00e9v\u00eaque trop endett\u00e9 vend le village au Grand Chapitre de la Cath\u00e9drale de Strasbourg qui sera le Seigneur de Ch\u00e2tenois jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la R\u00e9volution.<br \/>Puis, en 1444, les Armagnacs occupent Ch\u00e2tenois. Elle est de style Renaissance et surmont\u00e9e d&rsquo;un clocheton. L\u2019appel de la cloche sonnait le rassemblement des bourgeois. \u00ab\u00a0oyez, oyez, bonnes gens\u00a0\u00bb<br \/><br \/>Au d\u00e9part, le village n\u2019\u00e9tait pas entour\u00e9 de remparts en pierre, mais uniquement d\u2019une lev\u00e9e de terre et d\u2019un foss\u00e9. 4 portes en permettaient l\u2019acc\u00e8s. C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019en 1761 on ach\u00e8ve la construction de l\u2019\u00e9glise St Georges actuelle. On ne conserve que le clocher de l\u2019\u00e9glise m\u00e9di\u00e9vale. Son couronnement \u00e0 quatre \u00e9chauguettes d&rsquo;angles date de 1530. Il est enti\u00e8rement r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en bois de ch\u00e2taigniers. Mais c&rsquo;est quoi une <em><strong>\u00e9chauguette <\/strong><\/em>? Ce sont les 4 tourelles d&rsquo;angles de la tour. En encorbellement (accroch\u00e9 sur l&rsquo;ext\u00e9rieur) elles servent \u00e0 surveiller les abords de la fortification.<br \/>Le ch\u0153ur est baroque, ce qui est rare en Alsace (\u00e0 l\u2019exception de l\u2019\u00e9glise d\u2019Ebersmunster). Poussez la porte et vous d\u00e9couvrirez aussi l\u2019un des chefs d\u2019\u0153uvre du facteur d\u2019orgues Silbermann. personnes condamn\u00e9es pour sorcellerie \u00e0 <strong>Ch\u00e2tenois <\/strong>entre 1619 et 1629. Le premier proc\u00e8s eut lieu en 1619, contre <em>Georg Gr\u00f6ber<\/em>, c\u2019est l\u2019un des plus sinistres. En 1622 ce sont deux femmes qui sont condamn\u00e9es, ainsi qu\u2019en 1623. Le dernier proc\u00e8s en sorcellerie eut lieu en 1629 \u00e0 nouveau contre deux femmes. Tous ces proc\u00e8s sont in\u00e9dits, transcrits int\u00e9gralement \u00e0 partir des documents d\u2019\u00e9poque, qui se trouvent aux archives d\u00e9partementales et municipales de
